Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival

2 weeks ago I attended the opening weekend of the 42nd Annual Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival at the Kortright Centre for Conservation. The festival celebrates the coming of spring and the Canadian tradition of collecting sap and making syrup. It was a great way to spend the weekend and the weather was amazingly nice! The adult to kid ratio for the outing was 3 – 5, so we managed well enough…

We arrived around 1pm and had missed the guided walks, however we did enjoy our self guided hike, some maple syrup demonstrations, syrup sampling, and a horse drawn wagon ride! Syrup sampling was by far my favourite part! Although, I wasn’t thrilled by the idea of 5 kids drunk on pure sugar, and taking a shot of syrup isn’t as great as you’d think.

However, my niece came up with a brilliant way to consume the liquid gold. We ran into the woods where there was little foot traffic and made our own version of snowcones! It was delicious! If you do get a chance to do the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival (it runs until April 1, 2010) I highly recommend trying this =)

Mmmm-mmmm…. =)
